What is the best setting for 5.1 surround with no compression or upscaling? Have I interpreted what is happening correctly? What does +DSur suggest? Is the ATV4k sending compressed audio? Will it attempt to upscale a stereo input to 5.1 (do NOT want that)? When the ATV4k is set to "Dolby 5.1" the Dolby DD +Dsur at least indicates it (the AVR) knows the format. Is there a way to see what format ATV4k sensed and is sending to the AVR when set to "Off"? At what point is the signal downscaled to 5.1 when necessary (from 7.1, Atmos, etc)? When the audio format is set to "Dolby 5.1" the Apple TV 4k message suggests poor quality audio. The AVR input says "Multi Channel Input" which means it (the AVR) has no influence on the audio. When audio format is set to "Off" the ATV4k message implies it will sense the format and send the maximum quality audio via LPCM. The AVR is set to auto detect the input format. I want to avoid at all costs audio upscaling and compression. I'd prefer to have the Denon AVR decode the audio but if that's not possible it's ok to have the ATV4k do it. The goal is highest quality 5.1 surround sound. Ideas? Thank you.Īpple TV 4k Setup Question I have a home theater setup and a question about audio: Has anyone else had an experience like this? Did the TV OS update remove this type of connection? I can pair up HomePods and they work fine, but they are woefully underpowered for backyard viewing. We had it setup in the living the day of the update and after the auto update, it no longer worked. It is normally 2 channel as I only have a 2.1 setup for outside. I even checked all settings on the extractor (2Ch, 5CH, Pass). I have tried all of the different audio settings in the Apple TV and no luck. I know optical connections can be troublesome, but they are seated correctly. I have tested cables for HDMI, optical and older rca, cables, settings on the powered speakers, all connections and no success. When TVOS 14.5 came out, the video still works but the audio is lost. This setup has worked great for about 2 years with a wide variety of streaming services. If not familiar, this takes an HDMI input signal, splits the audio to an optical or rca (white-red-yellow) output sources and passes the video on to the projector and the audio to the speakers. The setup is on a cart and I use an HDMI audio extractor (JTech Digital JTDAT5CH to get an optical signal that sends to my powered klipsch speakers. I use an Apple TV 4th generation to play content on a projector for outdoor movies in our backyard and sometimes in the living room. TVOS 14.5 Update breaks HDMI audio extractor for projector cart.
